Job Description

  • The Welder is responsible for carrying out welding, fabrication, and repair of heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and related components in accordance with approved standards and safety procedures.
  • The role ensures structural integrity, durability, and availability of fleet assets through effective maintenance and repair activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication works on heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and components using appropriate welding techniques.
  • Carry out preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on truck bodies, chassis, and structural components.
  • Repair cracks, fractures, and worn-out metal parts to restore structural strength and functionality.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and fabrication sketches for accurate execution of tasks.
  • Inspect welded joints and structures to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Operate and maintain welding equipment, tools, and machines in good working condition.
  • Support major repairs, modifications, and overhauls of truck bodies and metal structures.
  • Ensure proper alignment and fitting of fabricated components before welding.
  • Maintain daily work logs and report material usage and completed tasks to supervisors.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety procedures, including the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with mechanical technicians and other maintenance personnel to ensure efficient repairs.
  • Suggest and implement improved fabrication and welding techniques for continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Trade Test Certificate or Diploma in Welding and Fabrication or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in welding, preferably within heavy-duty trucks.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques and metal fabrication.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Good manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and welding best practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and reporting skills.
